Leadership Program
Growing a Powerful Corps of Hispanic Community Leaders
At the heart of Creciendo Unidos, is our volunteers. Families who participate in our programs are typically so impacted that they want to stay on and volunteer in order to give back in response to the help they themselves received. As a result, CU has trained over 500 individuals in leadership and personal growth in order to give them the skills they need to effectively lead and motivate others.
Many of our volunteers consist of entire families, from 4-year-old children to 80-year-old grandparents, who are dedicated to cultivating a spirit volunteerism within the whole family. Our volunteer training gives individuals the ability to exceed their own self-expectations, fostering leadership skills and philanthropic values that they carry throughout their lives.
Basic Leadership Training
Throughout the course of 13 weeks, participants undergo 50 hours of personal growth and leadership training in weekly 2-hour sessions and a 3-day group retreat. They gain motivational skills and public speaking experience, as well as certification in dealing with domestic violence and child abuse issues, each requiring 12 hours of specialized training. Upon successful completion of this course, participants can help coordinate the CU’s programs they are most interested in as well as assist with CU outreach and operations. Many participants also get involved in community and school leadership activities outside of CU, creating a strong corps of Latino community activists.

Advanced Leadership Training
Graduates of the 13-week basic course have the option to continue training for another 4 months (an additional 52 hours) to develop more in-depth leadership skills, learning how to lead grassroots community programs, understanding family dynamics and how to work with children to cultivate young leaders. These graduates provide significant support to CU’s Family Strengthening Program (TEP).
